How to Use EquiTens Pro

Step 1 — Prepare Your Horse

Before applying the EquiTens Pro pads, make sure your horse’s skin is clean, dry and free from dust, dirt, sweat and loose hair.

Good skin contact is important for the pads to work correctly.

If you are unsure whether the area is sufficiently clean, we recommend washing the horse beforehand and allowing the skin to dry completely before use.

Do not apply the pads over dirty or dusty skin.

 

Step 2 — Prepare the Skin

For good conductivity and pad contact, the skin should have sufficient moisture.

You can use either:

• Conductive gel, or

• Plenty of clean water

Apply a small amount of conductive gel or water to the area where the pads will be positioned.

The skin should be damp enough to provide good contact, but not dripping wet.

 

Step 3 — Prepare the EquiTens Pro Pads

Check your pads before use and make sure they are clean and in good condition.

Apply the appropriate pad to the area you wish to treat, ensuring the conductive sections of the pad are making good contact with the horse’s skin. Remove the clear plastic carefully and keep this safe as you will need to put it back on after use.

Press the pad gently into position so there is good contact across the treatment area.

Never place the device or pads over damaged, irritated or broken skin, joints or tendons.

 

Step 4 — Position the Pad

Position the pad according to the treatment area and the guidance provided for your EquiTens Pro.

Make sure the pad is sitting flat against the horse’s skin and that there are no areas where the pad is lifting away.

The large C-shaped pad and small pad are designed for different treatment areas, so always select the appropriate pad for the area being treated.

 

Step 5 — Select Your Mode and turn on

Turn on your EquiTens Pro but holding down the full 0 button and select the appropriate mode but pressing the 0 button once.

SENSITIVE

Designed for lower-intensity use and for horses who may be new to electrotherapy.

RECOVER

Uses TENS technology and is designed for use as part of a recovery routine.

ACTIVATE

Uses EMS technology and is designed to provide controlled muscle stimulation.

Always start at a low intensity and increase gradually as appropriate.

 

Step 6 — Adjust the Intensity

EquiTens Pro features 6 intensity levels. press the + to turn up the intensity.

Begin at a low intensity and observe your horse’s response. we advise 1/2 intensity works best.

Increase gradually only when appropriate and comfortable for the horse.

Your horse should remain calm and comfortable throughout use.

Never force a horse to continue with treatment if they show signs of discomfort or distress.

 

Step 7 — Select Your Heat Setting if required but remeber it takes the power out of the device.

EquiTens Pro features three heat settings:

38°C | 40°C | 42°C

Select the appropriate setting according to the intended use and always monitor your horse during treatment.

If your horse shows signs of discomfort, stop the treatment immediately.

 

Step 8 — Begin Treatment

Once the pad is correctly positioned, the horse is comfortable and your settings have been selected, begin the treatment.

Remain with your horse throughout the session and monitor their response.

Step 9 — Remove the Pad

When the treatment is complete, switch off the EquiTens Pro before removing the pad by holding down the full O button for a few seconds.

Carefully peel the pad away from the horse’s skin.

Avoid pulling or removing the pad harshly.

 

Step 10 — Clean & Store

After use, check the pads and clean them according to the manufacturer’s care instructions. Re apply the clear plastic back.

Allow any moisture to dry appropriately before storing the equipment.

Store your EquiTens Pro and pads somewhere clean, dry and protected from excessive heat or moisture.

Taking care of your pads will help maintain good contact and performance.

If you are unsure whether electrotherapy is appropriate for your horse, consult your veterinary or qualified equine professional before use.

Never use EquiTens Pro on areas that are damaged, irritated or have broken skin.
