What is Equitens?
Equitens is a portable wireless electrical stimulation system designed specifically for use on horses. It offers different stimulation modes designed to support muscle activation, recovery, and comfort.
There are three modes on the Equitens Pro.
Sensitive - a lower intensity setting, ideal for horses that are more sensitive or new to electrical stimulation.
Activate - which is designed to stimulate muscles and support muscle activation similar to EMS.
Recover - TENS style setting designed for following exercise and for supporting comfort and recovery.
Can Equitens be used before exercise?
The activate mode can be incorporated into a pre-exercise routine where appropriate, helping to stimulate the muscles before work.
Can Equitens be used after exercise?
Yes, the recover mode is designed for use as part of a post-exercise recovery routine.
Is Equitens suitable for every horse?
Horses can respond differently to electrical stimulation. Always introduce the device gradually, starting at a low intensity and monitor the horse's response.
Where should I place the pads?
Pad placement depends on the intended area and purpose of use. Follow the Equitens instructions and recommended placement guidance rather than placing pads over areas where electrical stimulation is unsuitable. Large muscle areas are best.
How long should I use the Equitens for?
Usage time depends on the selected mode, intensity and intended application. Our recommended usage is 10 minutes either side of the horse, total of 20 minutes.
Does Equitens replace veterinary treatment or physiotherapy?
No, Equitens is intended as a complementary tool and should not replace veterinary assessment, diagnosis or treatment where these are required.
Is Equitens safe?
When used correctly and accordingly to the instructions, Equitens is designed for appropriate use of horses, always follow the safety guidance and recommended pad placement.
Can I use Equitens on an injured horse?
If your horse has an injury, medical condition or unexplained pain, seek advice from your vet or qualified profession before using the electrical stimulation, which can be very useful.
