Safety & Handling Information

⚠️ BEFORE USE
Please read the Instructions for Use and Safety & Handling Information before operating EquiTens Pro.
If you are unsure whether the device is suitable for your horse, seek advice from an appropriately qualified veterinary professional.

Please read this information carefully before using or handling your EquiTens Pro.

EquiTens Pro contains a rechargeable battery and electronic components. Correct handling, charging, storage and use are important for the safety of the user, horse and device.

⚠️ Important Safety Information

  • Do not expose the device or battery to fire, flames or excessive heat.

  • Do not expose the battery to direct sunlight or prolonged high temperatures.

  • Do not immerse the device or battery in water, seawater or other liquids.

  • Do not deliberately drop, crush, puncture, deform or subject the device or battery to strong mechanical shock.

  • Do not disassemble, modify or attempt to repair the battery or internal components yourself.

  • Do not connect the positive and negative terminals together or allow conductive materials to bridge the terminals.

  • Keep the device away from strong oxidising substances and strong acids.

  • Store the device in a cool, dry place when not in use.

  • Keep the device away from sources of heat when charging or storing.

The supplied SDS specifically warns that high temperatures can shorten battery life and reduce performance, and identifies water, conductive materials, strong oxidisers and strong acids as incompatible conditions.

🔋 Battery Handling

The EquiTens Pro contains a rechargeable battery.

To help maintain battery safety and performance:

  • Handle the device carefully.

  • Avoid dropping or damaging the unit.

  • Do not attempt to open or replace the internal battery yourself.

  • Do not expose the battery to excessive heat.

  • Do not leave the device in direct sunlight or in a hot vehicle for prolonged periods.

  • Keep the device dry.

  • Do not use a device that appears to have suffered significant physical damage.

If the battery becomes damaged, swollen, unusually hot, produces smoke, vapour or an unusual odour, stop using the device immediately and move away from the area. Do not attempt to dismantle the battery.

If safe to do so, move the device away from people and other sources of ignition and allow any vapours to dissipate in a well-ventilated area.

🚨 If the Battery Is Damaged or Releases Material

If battery material is released:

1. Stop using the device immediately.
2. Keep people and animals away from the affected area.
3. Provide good ventilation and allow fumes/vapours to dissipate.
4. Avoid touching released material with bare skin.
5. Avoid contact with the eyes and inhalation of vapours.
6. Do not allow released material to enter drains or watercourses.
7. Do not attempt to dismantle or repair the battery.

If you feel unwell following exposure to fumes or released material, seek medical attention.

👁️ Eye Contact

If released battery material comes into contact with the eyes:

Immediately rinse the eyes thoroughly with clean water or saline for at least 15 minutes and seek medical advice if irritation persists.

🖐️ Skin Contact

If released battery material comes into contact with the skin:

Wash the affected area thoroughly with water.

If irritation develops or persists, seek medical advice.

🌬️ Inhalation

If fumes or combustion products are inhaled:

Move to fresh air and rest in a comfortable position.

Seek medical advice if you feel unwell or symptoms persist.

⚠️ Ingestion

If battery material is accidentally swallowed:

Rinse the mouth and drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice.

🔥 Fire Safety

In the event of a fire involving the device or battery:

  • Do not attempt to handle a burning or severely overheated battery.

  • Keep people and animals away from the affected area.

  • Firefighters should use appropriate protective equipment and respiratory protection.

  • Firefighting methods should be appropriate to the surrounding environment.

  • Water may be used as a fine spray to control fire and cool adjacent areas where appropriate.

A damaged lithium/rechargeable battery may present additional fire and thermal hazards. If in doubt, leave the area and contact the emergency services.

📦 Storage

When EquiTens Pro is not being used:

DO:

  • Store in a cool, dry location.

  • Keep away from direct sunlight.

  • Keep away from excessive heat.

  • Keep away from water and seawater.

  • Store away from conductive materials.

  • Store away from strong oxidising substances and strong acids.

  • Protect the device from impact and physical damage.

  •

DO NOT:

  • Store in a hot vehicle.

  • Leave in direct sunlight for prolonged periods.

  • Store near a heat source.

  • Immerse in water.

  • Store where the battery could be crushed, punctured or damaged.

  • Attempt to open or modify the battery.

Elevated temperatures can shorten battery life and negatively affect battery performance.
