Instructions for Use

Wireless TENS + EMS & Heat System for Horses

Please read these Instructions for Use carefully before operating your EquiTens Pro.

For important warnings, contraindications and battery information, please also read our Safety & Handling Information before use.

1. What’s Included

Each EquiTens Pro set includes:

  • EquiTens Pro device

  • Controller

  • Small electrode pad

  • Large C-shaped electrode pad

  • USB charging cable

  • Instruction leaflet

Please check that all components are present before use.

2. Charging Your EquiTens Pro

EquiTens Pro is powered by a rechargeable battery.

Battery indicators

When the battery is running low, a red battery symbol will appear on the display.

When the device is fully charged, the battery indicator will display green.

Charging time

A full charge takes approximately 2 hours.

A fully charged battery provides approximately 30 hours of use, depending on the settings used.

Important: Using the heat function will increase battery consumption and therefore reduce the available operating time between charges.

To charge

Connect the supplied USB charging cable to the charging port and an appropriate USB power source.

Allow the device to charge fully before extended use.

Do not use damaged charging equipment.

For additional battery safety information, please refer to our Safety & Handling page.

3. Turning EquiTens Pro On

To switch the device on:

1. Locate the full-circle power button.

2. Press and hold the button for approximately 3–5 seconds.

3. The display will illuminate and the device will power on.

The device is now ready for you to select your required mode and settings.

4. EquiTens Pro Modes

EquiTens Pro has three operating modes:

SENSITIVE

The lowest-intensity mode and the recommended starting point when introducing a horse to EquiTens Pro.

We recommend beginning with Sensitive when using the device on a horse for the first time.

Allow the horse to become accustomed to the sensation before considering an increase in intensity.

RECOVER

A TENS-based stimulation mode.

This mode provides electrical stimulation at the selected intensity.

ACTIVATE

An EMS-based stimulation mode.

This mode provides electrical stimulation designed to produce controlled muscle stimulation.

5. Intensity Settings

EquiTens Pro has six intensity levels, from 1–6.

Level 1 → Lowest intensity

Level 6 → Highest intensity

We recommend starting at a low intensity and increasing gradually only when appropriate.

Levels 1 and 2 are the most commonly used settings.

Do not immediately increase to a higher intensity simply because the horse tolerates the initial setting.

Always monitor the horse’s response throughout the session.

6. Heat Function

EquiTens Pro features three heat settings:

38°C
40°C
42°C

The heat function is controlled using the button displaying a circle with three waves.

Selecting the heat setting

Press the heat button once:

38°C

Press again:

40°C

Press again:

42°C

Press again:

Heat OFF

Important

Using heat will:

  • Reduce the available output intensity of the device

  • Increase battery consumption

  • Reduce the operating time available from a single charge

Always monitor the horse during use and discontinue treatment if the horse shows signs of discomfort or an unexpected reaction.

7. Preparing the Horse & Skin Contact

For EquiTens Pro to operate correctly, good contact between the electrode pad and the horse’s skin is essential.

The horse should be clean

Before using EquiTens Pro, ensure the area being treated is clean and free from excessive dirt, dust, mud, sweat, loose hair or other debris.

If the horse’s skin is extremely dusty or dirty, the device may not activate or may not operate correctly.

If necessary, clean the treatment area before applying the pad.

Conductive contact

A suitable conductive medium is required between the pad and the horse’s skin.

Before applying the pad, lightly dampen the treatment area with clean water or an appropriate conductive gel.

This helps create adequate contact between the electrode surface and the horse’s skin.

Do not saturate the horse’s coat or pad. The aim is to provide sufficient moisture for good electrical contact.

Before starting treatment

Check that:

  • The treatment area is clean.

  • The skin is free from excessive dirt and dust.

  • The area has adequate moisture/conductive gel for electrical contact.

  • The pad is making good contact with the skin.

  • There are no visible signs of skin damage or irritation.

  • The pad is positioned only over an appropriate large muscle area.

IMPORTANT: If the device does not activate, first check that the treatment area is sufficiently clean and that adequate conductive contact has been created using water or conductive gel

8. Choosing the Pad

EquiTens Pro is supplied with two pads:

Small Pad

We recommend beginning with the small pad, particularly when introducing a horse to EquiTens Pro.

The small pad can be used on suitable large muscular areas such as:

  • The back

  • The hindquarters

Always ensure the pad is positioned over an appropriate muscular area and not over the restricted areas listed above.

Large C-Shaped Pad

The large C-shaped pad can be used when a larger treatment area is appropriate.

Ensure the pad is correctly positioned and has good contact with the horse before beginning stimulation.

9. Starting a Treatment

Once the appropriate pad has been correctly positioned:

STEP 1

Turn EquiTens Pro on by pressing and holding the power button for approximately 3–5 seconds.

STEP 2

Select your required mode:

Sensitive / Recover / Activate

STEP 3

Select your desired intensity.

We recommend beginning at a low intensity, particularly when introducing the horse to the device.

STEP 4

Select your desired heat setting if heat is required.

STEP 5

Press Start.

The 10-minute treatment timer will begin.

10. Treatment Duration

All three EquiTens Pro modes operate on a 10-minute treatment cycle:

  • Sensitive — 10 minutes

  • Recover — 10 minutes

  • Activate — 10 minutes

Once the 10-minute treatment cycle has finished, the device will automatically switch off.

Do not restart the device simply to extend a session without following the recommended instructions and safety guidance.

11. Treating Both Sides of the Horse

Where treatment is being performed on both sides of the horse, we recommend treating the corresponding area on the opposite side following completion of the first 10-minute session.

This allows the treatment to be applied symmetrically.

Complete the first side before moving the pad to the opposite side.

12. Finishing a Treatment

Once the 10-minute treatment has finished:

  1. The device will automatically switch off.

  2. If you need to switch the device off manually, press and hold the full-circle power button.

  3. Carefully remove the pad from the horse.

  4. Clean the pad after use.

  5. Replace the clear protective plastic film over the gel surface.

  6. Store the pad and device appropriately.

13. Caring for Your Pads

The electrode pads contain a reusable gel contact surface.

After every use:

Clean the pad before replacing the protective film.

When removing the clear protective film for the first time:

Remove the film slowly and carefully from the gel surface.

Do not pull the film away quickly, as this may damage the gel.

After cleaning, carefully replace the protective film and keep it for future use.

Always retain the protective film.

It is important for protecting the gel surface between treatments.

14. Important Pad Care

To help maintain the condition and performance of the pads:

  • Clean the pads after each use.

  • Replace the protective film after cleaning.

  • Keep the gel surface protected when not in use.

  • Do not allow the gel surface to become contaminated with dirt, hair or other materials.

  • Do not leave the pads exposed when not in use.

[We should insert the manufacturer’s exact approved cleaning method here once you give me that information.]

15. Important Safety Information

Before using EquiTens Pro, read the full Safety & Handling Information.

EquiTens Pro is designed for use on large muscle areas of horses only.

Never place the pads directly over:

❌ Joints
❌ Face
❌ Heart
❌ Spine

Always monitor the horse during treatment.

If the horse shows signs of discomfort, distress or an unexpected reaction, stop the treatment immediately.
